Cold as Ice
Until now, the only way to keep your drinks cold all summer was to be married to your cooler. That's why the developers at Graphic Packaging Corp. developed Ice Pack, a beverage carrier and self-contained ice cooler all in one. The only thing necessary to cool down your beloved Coke, Snapple or Gatorade is a little ice added to the package.
Graphic Packaging Corp. created a carton that combines a film barrier with special gusseted folds to seal the package interior. By keeping melted ice inside the packaging, Ice Pack enables your drink to stay cold, even at equator, while maintaining the structure of the package.
Originally introduced to keep beer cold, the Coors Brewing Company used The New Cooler Box™, as it was known then, to package its 12-pack, 12-oz. bottles of Coors Light. The packaging kept the beer cold, increased sales and received positive responses from the marketplace.
Graphic Packaging Corp. sees soft drinks, water and juice as lucrative future markets to tap into. From the company's perspective, Ice Pack can be utilized for any type of beverage container, including bottles, cans, aseptic boxes and pouches.
Hooked on a Hologram
Combining holographic, metallized paper with board, the Double Rainbow Holographic UniLustre™ is a multi-dimensional, marketing medium that creates dramatic graphics with the illusion of illumination and movement.
This holographic line of paper and board allows for visual effects on printed materials and commands attention when arranged side-by-side on a retail shelf or floor display. As a marketing tool, the reflective surface draws customers in for a second look.
The holographic, metallized board is perfect for a variety of printing applications, including:
- advertising
- P-O-P displays

Double Rainbow Holographic Unilustre, available in 25-lb. paper to 38-pt. board, is transfer metallized, non-laminated, with an embossable metallized film. Another desirable feature of this versatile board is that it can be used with offset, flexo, gravure, UV inks and specialty coatings.
Making Margarine Sans Stains
If you've ever purchased vegetable oil, specifically in sticks, there may have been a stain on your package that even Tide would have difficulty treating. After the standard, fluorocarbon-treated margarine board received the boot from the EPA in 2000, the packaging industry needed to figure out a way to deal with the unsightly stains on margarine boxes, a common occurrence with vegetable oils.
Enter Golden, CO-based Graphic Packaging Corp. (GPC). The company developed and patented a new secondary package for Lipton Margarine Sticks, hiding exterior carton stains associated with margarine packaging. Using general converting methods and standard paperboard, GPC built a better box with no increased cost.
Warmer temperatures produce vegetable oil stains more quickly than temperatures in the refrigerated section. Thus, the stain problem becomes more prevalent when grocery stores wish to move their margarine inventory to end-of-aisle displays. Using this new packaging, products will maintain their appearance despite fluctuations in temperature.
The new Lipton margarine package is virtually identical to the previous one, with the exception of one minute detail — no fluorocarbons.
Because the packaging transition occurred without an obvious change in the exterior, Lipton experienced a seamless transition between the new and the old margarine packaging.
