Atlanta, Georgia William McGrattan, senior technical resource for Domtar Lithotech in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada, has been named the recipient of TAPPI's 1997 Corrugated Containers Division Technical Award and Harry J. Bettendorf Prize. The award was presented at an awards ceremony October 29, during the 1997 Corrugated Containers Conference in Milwaukee. A TAPPI member since 1972, McGrattan has been actively involved in the Process & Quality Control, Fibreboard Shipping Container Testing (Fisotec), Printing and Graphics, Corrugated Board Technical Service (Corbotech), and Production committees. He served as chairman of the linerboard/corrugated subcommittee from 1988-89 and as secretary of the Fisotec committee from 1972-73. McGrattan has published more than 12 TAPPI Technical Information sheets as well as several other articles for TAPPI and the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association. He served as an expert workshop panelist and moderator and technical session moderator throughout his career. In addition to McGrattan, Edward L. Riley was recently named the recipient of TAPPI's 1997 Corrugated Containers Division Leadership and Service award. The award was presented at the same awards ceremony October 29, during the 1997 Corrugated Containers Conference. A TAPPI member since 1966, Riley has rotated through the officer chairs of the Corrugated Containers division, serving as division chairman in 1986-87. He has published several articles through TAPPI Journal and numerous articles dealing with "Managing the Process" in other trade press. Riley has been an instructor involved with TAPPI's Corrugated and Graphics short courses for a number of years and was recognized as TAPPI's "Outstanding Short Course Chairman" for fiscal year 1995.
