Patrick Moore was named president, chief executive officer and director of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., succeeding Ray Curran, who retired from his corporate position and the board of directors.

Moore served in both operating and financial management positions at Smurfit-Stone and Jefferson Smurfit Corp., its predecessor, since 1987. He headed the industrial packaging division, served as chief financial officer at both companies and has been vice president and CFO since 1998.

Anderson & Vreeland, Inc. appointed Thomas Gavin as president and chief operating officer, which was announced by the company's board of directors.

In other company related news, Wesley Anderson and Howard Vreeland, Sr., co-founders of the flexographic platemaking materials and equipment company, retired as of December 31, 2001.

The National Paperbox Association announced that its president, Mickey Gorman, has left the association to pursue other opportunities.

Bobst Group appointed Ron Sousa and Eugene Bratton to regional service managers. Sousa will be responsible for folder-gluers throughout the U.S., while Bratton will handle SP-SPO diecutters in the Northeast territory.

Degussa Corp. adds Robert Taylor to its staff. Taylor will concentrate on developing and executing the strategies and objectives for hydrogen peroxide marketing as the marketing manager of hydrogen peroxide designated for the pulp and paper industry.

Patrick Marchese was named Pioneer of the Year by the Printing Industries Association, Inc. The award recognizes those in the industry who originate or help develop innovative business methods for the graphic arts industry.

Corrugated Replacements, Inc. selected three new technical sales representatives to their sales team, Michael McCarthy, Steven LeFlar and Robert Carmean. McCarthy will cover the Midwest, LeFlar's territory encompasses the Southwest and Carmean will be responsible for the Southeast.

Donald Moore has been appointed as the new president of SouthEastern Die Company Inc. Prior to this nomination, Moore was vice president of sales and marketing for Container Graphics Corp.
