Detroit, Michigan Michigan Box Co. Inc. (MBC), Detroit, Michigan, has recently purchased Hess Packaging Inc. of Westland, Michigan. Michigan Box, approaching its 50th year in business, has a solid reputation as an integrated manufacturer and distributor of a wide variety of corrugated boxes and specialty packaging items. Hess Packaging is a longtime distributor of similar products. Immediate plans call for operation of the Hess facility under its current name, utilizing MBC's administrative strengths, plus complete renovation of the MBC plant in Detroit's Empowerment Zone. This acquisition complements the existing family of MBC, which includes the Fontana Forest Products division (FFP). FFP is a specialty wood products manufacturer focusing on the automobile industry. Additionally, Michigan Box Co. recently joined with four other regional corrugated manufacturers to form Midcorr Inc., a corrugated manufacturing company located in New Carlisle, Indiana. This $16-million project included purchasing of land and erecting a 100,000-sq.-ft. building.
