Heidelberg sustained its growth during the first quarter, April 1 through June 30, of the 2001-2002 fiscal year. During this challenging period, Heidelberg Group sales grew to US$932.2 million, an approximately 8% increase over last year's first quarter results of US$844.9 million. Despite a decrease in orders, the company still benefited from a rising operating profit during this period and also benefitted from a reform in the German tax system.
