Web Foil Stamper According to the company, the Gietz Rofo 870 foil stamper, a 34-in. web width (31.5-in. stamping width) high-speed web press, foil stamps, embosses and transfers holograms with reportedly accurate registration using economical flat stamping tools. According to the manufacturer, the benefits include: savings on expensive rotary dies; optimum use of foil by running it both transversely and longitudinally; production speeds of 100 strokes per minute or 230 feet per minute; and both print registration and web registration for proper positioning in both the lateral and running direction of the web. Spectral Reporting Software The company has introduced new optional software capabilities for ColorQuick, its on-press color measurement system for web-offset presses. According to the manufacturer, ColorQuick spectral reporting software unleashes the capabilities of the on-web spectrophotometer by adding full spectral and colorimetric capabilities. These capabilities include: full spectral reflectance data; CIE L*a*b* or L*C*H* color space and delta E (dE*); dEcmc tolerancing; and new conformance diagrams for process printing. Rotary Die Ruling Cylinder A full line of rotary die ruling cylinders designed to increase rotary die ruling productivity and to increase worker efficiency and safety is now available. In the new units, fully machined, seamless steel tube die cylinders are mounted between fabricated steel side frames. The cylinder is then coupled to a 1/4 Hp gear motor with a foot-activated on/off switch designed for easy operator access and control. Photopolymer Plate The new Flex-Light(R) BPS(TM) photopolymer plate is designed to last a long time without sacrificing performance. According to the manufacturer, uncapped BPS photopolymer offers a unique combination of fast exposure times while maintaining good image latitude. It can reproduce the full range of intricate detail at a single exposure setting-whether the image is line copy, halftones or a combination of both-with no masking required. BPS is engineered for line and process printing on a wide array of label, pre-print liner and folding carton substrates, including paper, film and foil. The plate's dry, tack-free surface reportedly promotes strong ink transfer and clean running transfer on press. Coating Application System The company now offers its customers the ability to test its Precision Liquid Applicator (PLA) at the Sterling Diagnostic Imaging (SDI) pilot coating facility. The PLA and PLA2S are designed to transfer liquid films from three microns to 15 microns thick without slinging or spattering, delivering a constant linear film thickness.
