Kristin Reynolds, BCI's Managing Editor, tromped through The Mead Corp.'s Woodlands near Phenix City, Alabama, to bring you her report on the forestry portion of a folding carton's life cycle. She then visited a coated board mill, the Mead Mahrt mill in Cottonton, Alabama, to find out how one of the largest mills in the world squeezes paper from trees-and water from wood, incidentally. In the meantime, Robin Levine, BCI's Editor, examined how Dixie Printing & Packaging has mastered the use of computer-to-plate (CTP) technology in converting paper into folding cartons at its Glen Burnie, Maryland, facility. Finally, Christine Lyall, BCI's Senior Associate Editor, flew to St. Paul, Minnesota, to tour a paper collection and processing center and recycling mill operated by Rock-Tenn Company. These stories start on page 29. Henry Rocha started in the corrugated industry in 1968 working for International Paper. After eight years with IP, during which he served as head of the corrugator department, he joined Corrugated Supplies Corp. (CSC) as a shift supervisor. He then moved up the ranks at CSC to vice president of manufacturing, a position he held for 13 years. In 1996, Rocha started his own corrugated consulting business, Corrugated Industry Consultants, which is based in Orland Park, Illinois. His article appears on page 42. Michael Maddox, BCI's European Editor, profiles Snel BV, a finishing house in Nijmegen, Holland, for his second "Converter of the Month" installment on page 44. Michael also recently traveled to Nice, France, with BCI Editor Robin Levine to cover the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers conference (FEFCO). FEFCO coverage can be found in the Industry News section on page 6.
