The Chinese domestic containerboard industry is in the midst of sweeping changes with regard to its linerboard production. Trends demonstrate that an increasing number of China's boxmakers are turning toward lower-priced, domestic linerboard made with new, state-of-the-art machines. After March 2000, linerboard imports curtailed dramatically, despite their 10% annual growth per year during 1995 to 1999. China's linerboard imports ended the year down by 13.5% to 1.12 million tonnes.
