Taipei, Taiwan Cheng Loong Corp., headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan, and DuPont China Ltd., based in Hong Kong, have signed a long-term cooperation agreement for the establishment of a Cyrel(R) flexographic plate-making center in Taipei to serve Cheng Loong's printing factories throughout Taiwan. Under the agreement, Cheng Loong will install a state-of-the-art DuPont Cyrel flexographic plate-processing system. DuPont will provide training and support for CLC's staff, as well as technical research, know-how and support to develop Cheng Loong's corrugated board color printing capability. Cheng Loong is one of Taiwan's largest papermaking groups, with five boxmaking plants throughout the nation. All of its plants operate to ISO 9000 standards and employ 16 flexographic presses from Europe and Japan, with more on order. Since 1988 it has won more than 10 "Star of the World" awards at the prestigious World Packaging Organization (WPO) international packaging design competition. According to the company, it currently has approximately 23% of the Taiwanese corrugated board market, estimated to be about 140 million sq. m. annually. Following the investments in its new plant during the past two years, Cheng Loong now aims to increase this share to 30% by investing in people development, information technology and training.
