Boca Raton, Florida
This spring, clocks weren't the only thing that sprang forward. At this year's Association of Independent Corrugated Converters (AICC) spring meeting, "Put Spring in Your Sales and Bounce in Your Bottom Line" was the theme for which independents across the United States and Canada flocked to Boca Raton, Florida, April 21-24, to improve their sales techniques. Kicked off with a reception poolside, the sessions focused on a variety of topics centered around bottom-line growth. Frank Poper, former senior economist for International Paper and now a lecturer at Memphis State University, armed converters with economic information on where the box business is headed. Michael Gasser, CEO of Greif Bros., shared his insight on rebuilding a company by focusing on key strengths. Consultant Terry Brock discussed motivating a sales team and using technology to bring in sales. Other headliners included International Paper's Dennis Woodall, who discussed graphics on packaging, and Barry Gibbons, the man credited with Burger King's turnaround. The meeting closed with a "Return to the 1970s" disco party where AICC members came dressed in their best bell-bottoms to remember the decade in which AICC was born.
